ICT Industry Leaders Honoured for Their Contributions

Petaling Jaya, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 – The Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM) today honoured 9 members of the information and communications technology (ICT) industry for their effort and contributions in developing the industry. |

The recognitions were presented by Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dato’ Kong Cho Ha, accompanied by Chairman of PIKOM Lee Boon Kok.
The Deputy Minister in his speech encouraged ICT entrepreneurship through knowledge sharing and mentoring. He also urged organisations to partner with the academia to help address the issue of skills mismatch of graduates in the ICT industry.
Meanwhile, Lee said that the Key Industry Leader recognition was initiated by PIKOM to remember the individuals’ contributions and achievements. This is the forth time PIKOM has honoured the industry leaders which was initiated in 2005.
The PIKOM Key Industry Leaders are selected based on their invaluable contributions to the local ICT industry throughout the years. Some have made a large impact in the industry while others are regarded as brand CEOs in the ICT industry and therefore their achievements are applauded.
The recognised individuals that evening are Mr. Chew Liong Kim, Executive Director and CEO of Dataprep Holdings Bhd, Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim, Group CEO of Maxis Group, Mr. Leo Suresh Ariyanayakam, CEO/Group Executive Director of Scicom (MSC) Bhd, Mr. SV Lingam, Founder and Managing Director of Paradigm Systems Berhad, Mr. Justin Tan, CEO of Extol Group of Companies, Mr. Thed Cor Yong, Founder and Managing Director of CMG Holdings Sdn Bhd,
Mr. Alex Wee, Founder and Managing Director of Datamation Group of Companies, Ms Queenie Wong, Managing Director of CA Malaysia and Mr. Eddie Yap, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of OSK Ventures International Berhad Group.
Among individuals who were previously given this recognition include Datuk Abdul Wahid Omar of TM, Dato’ Mohd Hilmey Mohd Taib of Heitech Padu, Dato’ Tan Hock San of FSBM, Mr. V R Srivatsan of Oracle Malaysia and Mr. Chuah Tai Eu of CSA.
During the evening, Dan E Khoo, Chief Executive of WCIT 2008 Sdn Bhd made a presentation on the World Congress on Information Technology that will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 18 to 22 May in 2008.
