Open Prepress Interface (OPI)
Moving high-resolution images around your network can cause slow-downs that dramatically reduce production performance. With GUSS, workstations clear in seconds, no matter how many images are printed GUSS' high-speed retrieval system allows for high performance even in peak production times.
OPI allows a low-resolution preview to be used within the page layout in place of the high-resolution image. This preview contains only a small sampling of the original data, so it can be easily moved without bogging down the network. At print time, high-resolution images are automatically inserted in place of the previews as the job is being sent to the output device. Some systems actually insert high-resolution data into the PostScript file as it spools into the server. This can create a mammoth file that must be written to disk, severely hurting performance and wasting valuable disk space.
Rather than trying to fit all your jobs into the traditional OPI workflow, the system provides a flexible approach to OPI with three different methods to fit the various types of jobs.
