The Six Domains – Datamation’s Project Management Approach

Our project management approach is based on DM’s internal approach which has been refined over a period of time with input from a combination of experiences and best practices from DM’s experienced project management and consultancy teams, based on elements of PMI and Prince II. The objective of our approach is to maintain compliance to best practices without over-burdening the project with unnecessary documentation. ECM and BPM projects in general are more flexible and fluid than traditional Line of Business (LOB) projects like ERP and Call Center or even turn-key projects. ECM and BPM projects deals with business processes which are subjected to constant changes based on political, economic and technological changes.

The approach is a proven approach and a disciplined process. It provides for comprehensive instructions, guidance and tools for the planning, management, assessment and implementation of projects. It supports phased change with a holistic, integrated approach whereby a large, complex project is broken down into smaller, manageable sub-projects each of which produces high quality results and tangible benefits. The approach life cycle aligns the project or program with the target organisation’s business strategy, covering a series of domains of change: Processes, Organisation, Location, Data, Application and Technology as depicted in the figure (right). Our emphasis is on the human aspects as business process changes will affect the way in which the organisation will perform tasks. It is for this reason that our focus is on process re-alignment and improvement and on a methodical and measurable change management process.

The approach provides the framework that manages the development of processes, organisation and technology which ensures delivered products meet the business needs of the customer. It does not end with the successful deployment of a new solution but delivers products that are amenable to change and provides the tools to review the new systems' operation in the new business environment.
